As I sit writing this, I am happily making my way through a whole family pack of HobNobs (not really, but a girl can dream.) And such sugary, calorie-laden dreams would be very wrong, as we well know. Junk food = bad, celery sticks = good. It seems that this mantra of healthy eating, as bellowed by celebrity chef, Jamie Oliver, is finally being appreciated by the masses with sales of chocolate biscuits being hit the worst. Sales in the biscuit trade have dropped from 427million in 2001, to 353million in 2006, with Penguin reporting losses of 12.9%, Rocky 12%, Club 10% and Kit Kat 4.9%. This slump has been directly attributed to Jamie and his campaign to feed our nation's children more responsibly, with analysts Mintel confirming it is definitely down to Jamie. Despite the problems he has encountered in trying to overhaul the nation's eating habits, this news is testament to the influence the socially-conscious chef has had.
