Conventional wisdom says that the Republican party is on the ropes because of the Iraq war. Certainly, if we would fight to win, as we are finally now doing, then the American people would be less opposed to the effort. But what really ails the Republican party is the behavior of our own "leaders":We have a ranking Senator on the judiciary committee who wants to undermine conservative jurisprudence and provide aid and comfort to liberal judicial activists by re-playing the Roberts and Alito confirmation hearings We have the most senior Republican in the Senate believing that tax money is for his own porkbarreling use We have a powerful House member, also from Alaska, who boasted of his porkbarreling ways (If Don Young's and Ted Stevens's behavior gets them into legal trouble, good riddance) We have the top Republican on the Senate Finance Committee aiming to (with help from another senior Republican senator) help Democrats inch their way to socialized health care and raise [ Full article ] |
