Unmitigaged evil in the name of Islam -- and maybe a hint of hope

You may have seen the reports that the two women who carried suicide bombs into a marketplace in Iraq yesterday were mentally retarded. Can there possibly be a worse example of the murdering of innocents? Except that it may offer a tiny sliver of hope: Perhaps the murderers are running out of Muslims of sound mind eager to kill themselves and others in the name of their faith? Explanation after the jump. A question debated endlessly in the blogoshpere is to what extent Islam is "responsible" for murders committed in its name. OTOH, most of the terrorist attacks of the past decade or so have had a Muslim connection (though most of the victims have also been Muslim). OTOH, of the billion-plus Muslims in the world, the actual terrorists have represented a vanishingly small percentage.
