Iowa’s fattest wallets

There’s Beverly Hills 90210, one of the top ZIP codes in the nation for donations to presidential candidates not to mention TV fame and glamor. But in Iowa, the golden land is Des Moines 50312. The Center for Responsive Politics did an analysis of campaign contributions to candidates, published in today’s USA Today. The report breaks down the top metro areas and ZIP codes for giving. Iowans are far from the top contributors in the nation, compared to the human ATMs in New York, California or Texas. But the analysis shows that ZIP code 50312 which takes in the south-of-Grand neighborhood in west-side Des Moines has produced the most contributions in Iowa so far this year. Tom Vilsack, who since has dropped out of the race, was the leader in 50312 with $16,900. Mitt Romney was in second place with $11,100 and Barack Obama came in third with $9,301.
