In an attempt to shed some light on some independent films and expand our horizons from the typical mainstream blockbusters and comic book movies, I'm going to occasionally feature an indie movie that's in the news. Today it's filmmaker Danny Boyle's (Trainspotting, 28 Days Later, Sunshine) next project - Slumdog Millionaire. You would imagine that by now Danny Boyle is no longer indie, but that's not the case, especially when you hear what this film is about. The based-on-a-true-story film follows an illiterate street kid from Mumbai, India who wins the jackpot on the Indian version of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" Boyle is shooting it in Mumbai starting in November. He says he wants to use the extremity of Mumbai culture to give personality to the love story that develops with the street kid, who is leveraging his television performance in the hopes that he will find the girl that he loves, who watches the show every night.
