Independent works will always have a hard time finding its niche in an already established market, and video games are no exception. Steve Escalante talked about the subject during the Texas' Independent Game Conference.Steve Escalante is the Business Development VP of the Gamecock Media Group and has eight years of experience in the industry. In his speech, Escalante talks about how creating a game usually boils down to creativity versus profitability. Basically, that capitalistic frame of mind is one of the greatest pitfalls of the industry because it hinders the birth of new ideas for games. Escalante however, proposes that "it s not about changing the industry: it s about using the industry s pitfalls."Games, he says, don't need to be big and well-funded to be able to compete with already established titles in the market.
