I'm Going on Vacation. Please Leave a Comment and Burglarize My House

But one of my neighbors has been at the beach this week, and I've been feeding her cat and collecting her mail. I got to thinking about all the usual "things to do before you go on vacation" tips: have someone pick up your mail and newspaper, set a timer for the lights, and generally make it so that it looks like someone's at home. OK, fine. But, what good is all that if, in the days and weeks running up to your vacation, you're announcing to the world: Hey! I'm going on vacation! The house is going to be empty! Please rob us! No sane person would do this, of course, but we're talking about bloggers: By posting excitedly to your blog about your travel planning process, the dates you'll be away (because you don't want to leave your regular readers hanging) and talking about all the wonderful things you're going to do and the people and blog-friends you'll
