Houston School Officials threaten to ticket students

Houston School Officials are warning students that if they protest Thursday they could be ticketed. Northeast Houston community leaders, pastors and parents led by activist Quanell X have planned a demonstration for 7:30 a.m. outside Key Middle School. That’s when students are supposed to board the bus to Fleming Middle School, where they have been attending class for two weeks because of potential health hazards at Key. Key Middle School was evacuated after U.S. Rep Sheila Jackson Lee led a federal EPA team through the school, a final report is still pending. Houston Superintendent Abelardo Saavedra initially angered teachers and parents when he insisted for weeks that Key Middle School was safe despite complaints from numerous employees that mold or some other air-quality problem there was making them sick.
