Hot, Bothered – And Happy Over Sean Avery

Rangers' fans can breathe easier now that Sean Avery is back in the fold with a spanking new $1.9 million contract for next season. A number of Blueshirts' fans got themselves hot and bothered over the center's recent arbitration hearing and that includes my good friend, Hal Gelman. Then again, Pal Hal becomes unnerved when the Rangers fail to finish a season with an 82-0-0 record. When it became public knowledge that Glen Sather had submitted a few challenging statements before the arbitrator, The Great Gelman was on the blower with me, terribly concerned that the NHL's supreme agitator, Sir Sean, might emerge peeved from his hearing. So, I will tell you all just as I told Mister G ... it was all part of the hoary arbitration routine. Did anyone including Avery expect the Rangers to anoint Sean with nothing but glittering adjectives so that he might emerge with something akin to Jaromir Jagr's or Scott Gomez's salary?
