In the movie, El Cantante, Hector Lavoe stares into an abyss of drugs and extramarital affairs and, through the help of a traditional Puerto Rican santero, assembles enough strength to sober himself only to dive back into the hole. Listen to Todopoderoso. La Voz Before he re-fell from grace, Lavoe composed Todopoderoso ("all-powerful"). This song intersects two interests in my life, music and religion. It also happens to have an almost Handel-like horn introduction and chant-montuno-extended improvisational singing that's effective because of Lavoe's voice.
