Taxpayers convicted in death of child: CPS ordered to pay mother $1.5 million Today's daily reports the disturbing case of a 9-year-old boy who died of multiple traumatic injuries, after suffering abuse while living with family members. Child Protective Services twice investigated reports of unusual bruising, but failed to remove the child from the home. The boy's drug addicted mother and his father, were not involved in his life, at the time of the investigations. That fact did not keep her from filing suit, claiming her son might have lived if CPS had removed him from her mother's residence. Young Dustin Rhodes' grandmother, aunt and the aunt's boyfriend were acquitted on all counts of child abuse stemming from his death. Which part of this compounded tragedy is most outlandish? Their acquittal or the high dollar award to a negligent mother? Seems Dustin was worth more to her dead than alive. [ Full article ] |
