How exactly do illegals flee to their own homeland? As illegal workers flee Arizona in anticipation of the Employer Sanctions law (HB 2779), the daily paper puts us on alert that the implementation of the law will so tighten the labor market, that it could lead to higher wages and also higher costs for goods and services. These dire predictions come to us via Don Wehbey, the Arizona Department of Economic Security's senior economist. The alarmist headline reads: Migrants fleeing as hiring law nears - Immigration hard-liners cheer, but economic fallout begins What the Republic's story should be is that the exploitation of illegal workers has suppressed wages. Many illegal workers live several families to a single household and are paid unscrupulously low wages, since they can be due to their illegal status.
