So let's recap on the Haneef affair, without concentrating on the spineless worm who thinks it's suspicious that the doctor should want to leave Australia without one last trip to Dreamworld. What has it told us about our nation's response to the Terrorist Threat on Our Doorstep? It all began with the bungled atrocities in the UK. The British police seem to have been very efficient. Within a few hours they'd tracked down the associates of the two clowns who tried to blow up Glasgow airport and found Dr Haneef's SIM card. From what we've been told, they tried to talk to Haneef in India, he tried to contact them without success, and somehow or other the AFP got into the act. And this is the first point that's been downplayed in the subsequent hysteria: Dr Haneef was fingered because of a possible association with a crime that had been committed in the UK.
