Crimewatch revamp complete as Kirsty Young takes the reins |

When Nick Ross was unceremoniously booted off Crimewatch, his co-presented Fiona Bruce said she would stick around. What she meant to add was "as long as it takes me to find another job," because today (or, to be entirely accurate, yesterday) comes news that she is being replaced as Crimewatch presenter by Kirsty Young. "I decided to leave Crimewatch some months ago to move on to the Antiques Roadshow, which I am looking forward to enormously," says Bruce in a BBC press release, thus making it clear she jumped rather than waiting to be pushed as the unfortunate Ross was. Young, whose meteoric rise through the BBC has not gone unremarked in media circles, exhibited an instant grasp of the essentials of Crimewatch. "Sadly crime is a fact of life and affects us all," she said, showing a remarkable depth of understanding that makes us all think that Crimewatch will be as safe in her hands as that other long-lived and much-loved BBC output Desert Island Discs has been.
