By JOHN MORITZ AUSTIN -- A key supporter of New York Sen. Hillary Clinton said Thursday that Texas' confusing primary-caucus hybrid should be scrapped so that in the future, delegates to the Democratic National Convention would be awarded based on the popular vote in the state's primary.State Sen. Juan Hinojosa, a McAllen Democrat, said he intends to push his proposal at the party's state convention this summer. It would not affect the still-being-tabulated results from Tuesday night's post-primary caucuses, which could result in Clinton finishing second in the race for Texas delegates even though she won the popular vote."Our system has just outlived its usefulness," Hinojosa said. "The way we are doing it is not very democratic."Clinton beat Illinois Sen. Barack Obama by about 101,000 votes in the primary; nearly 2.9 million Democrats voted in the largest Texas primary turnout in recent memory.
