On Thursday, August 16, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts will host a Nordic reception/dance from 6-8:30 p.m as the final special event for the current special exhibit, titled "A Mirror of Nature: Nordic Landscape Painting 1840-1910." Since 1977, Northfield has developed a growing and thriving traditional Nordic folk arts community. Performers from Northfield will be featured at the reception, including two recognized Minnesota Folk Artists as well as two musical groups that have grown out of Nordic Jam, a weekly open music session that has met for the past five years at The Contented Cow. There will be music from Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden with waltz, reinlender/schottis, snoa, springar, gangar, rudl, etc. as well as for listening. Admission to the reception is free (cash bar available). Entrance to the exhibit is not required for attendance at the reception. read more [ Full article ] |
