By JAMILA ROBINSON Still in a holiday mood after the Fourth? Consider having a Bastille Day brunch next weekend. I began celebrating Bastille Day with a brunch for friends many years ago, not only to explore French recipes and culture, but to celebrate liberty, equality and brotherhood, which also are very American concepts. Now, every July 14, making quiche and pain perdu become my raison d’etre. (Note: Bastille Day falls on a Monday this year, so you might want to plan your party for next weekend.)Here’s how to get started. Bon appetit Brunch fare is even more delicious when you say it in French. Pain perdu — literally "lost bread" and better known in the U.S. as French toast — is a wonderful centerpiece for a Gallic-inspired buffet.
