80,000 Evacuated in Sichuan Province |

Two aftershocks are prompting Chinese officials to relocate an additional 80,000 people nearly two weeks after the initial quake shook the Sichuan province, reports Bloomberg.com. The aftershocks are threatening 33 townships with flooding after mudslides created 35 lakes. More than 420,000 homes were destroyed during the 4.5 magnitude aftershocks and 60 people were injured. The earthquake two weeks ago was the deadliest in 32 years, having left at least 87,000 dead or missing. 150,000 people have already been evacuated from the area prior to the aftershocks. The initial earthquake along with the aftershocks caused landslides which blocked rivers, thus created 35 lakes, all of which are threatening to rupture their banks. Tangjiashan lake, the biggest formed in Sichuan, holds approximately 34 billion gallons of water and was created when a part of a mountain collapsed in the Jianhe river.
