500 Year Flood Challenges The Mighty Mississippi River |

Over the past couple of weeks, we have all watched as tremendous rainfall has first flooded two of Iowa's largest cities, Ceder Rapids and Des Moines and now that massive amount of water runoff is swelling the Mississippi River and causing flooding along it's banks, too. The first of what will probably be many levee breaks occurred today in Illinois. That levee break caused massive flooding to Illinois farm land at the height of that states production season. Whether the massive rain that cause this flooding in Iowa and now Illinois is being caused by 'Global Warming' or just plain bad luck is not known for certain. However, whatever the cause - thousands of people are being forced from their homes and hundreds of farmers are losing crops that their families depend upon for their livelihood.The major news media has been tossing around the term 500 year flood when describing what is happening in Iowa and now in Illinois.
