5 Stretches: Before and After a Run |

We all know how important it is to stretch out our muscles, especially after a run, but I also stretch before to warm up my hips and hamstrings. I often walk briskly or jog slowly for about 5 minutes to get the blood flowing before stretching. You just have to be careful to move slowly with complete awareness since your muscles are usually tense and tight in the beginning. Here's a series of 5 stretches I like to do before and after a run. Kneeling Hip Flexor Stretch - From a Down Dog position (this is a great stretch for you calves too), step your right foot forward between your hands. Lower your left knee onto the ground (make sure it's a padded surface - fold up a towel or use a thin block if you're on bare floor). Bring your hands to your front knee, pressing your shoulders back to increase the stretch in the front of your left thigh.
