Next two through to Final 12: Ben McKenzie, Marty SimpsonFinally, some decent vote-throughs in this year's Australian Idol, though Group Three was largely an embarrassment of vocal riches (in Idol terms, at least), apart from dull-as-dishwater Radiohead fan Dave Andrews, who made John Farnham's Freedom sound like the on-hold music at Dido & Dave Matthews Sleep Therapists Inc, and will no doubt be enjoying a long and fruitful career in Newcastle's open-mic nights. Spotty Ben didn't really take our breath away at the auditions, nor through the theatre round, but his performance of Gary Jules' cover of Tears For Fears' Mad World (why is Idol always so po-mo?) was lovely, and we get the sense he could be keeping something special hidden for later (and that's not a reference to the magic the Maybelline Style Team worked on his face).All-good Aussie surfer dude Marty Simpson, again, gave us an attack of the snores during his audition, but he could be this year's Bobby Flynn, what [ Full article ] |
