What is Postpartum Depression? Postpartum depression (PPD) occurs after the birth of a child. This happens because of the hormonal changes in a woman’s body from pregnancy to post pregnancy. The first 24hours following the birth of a child is when the hormones in a woman’s body greatly decreases back down to the amount of normal hormones in a woman who is not pregnant. Research has shown that this large change in hormones is similar, but on a greater scale, to a woman who is about to start her menstration. This hormone change is what is linked to postpartum depression. What are the warning signs or signals of Postpartum Depression? There are several signs that can signal a new mother is suffering from postpartum depression.
