1,730 Indian Guitarists Go “Knockin’ On” Guinness Book |

Even our world records are being outsourced to South Asia. One year after 1,721 guitarists in Kansas City played Deep Purple’s “Smoke on the Water” in perfect harmony, that Guinness Book record was quickly usurped today as 1,730 guitarists in the town of Shillong, India, loaded a nearby stadium to strum Bob Dylan’s “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door” in unison. Kind of a morbid choice, but “Sunshine of Your Love” probably proved too complex. The “performance” was videotaped and sent to the Guinness offices for confirmation. This isn’t the first time Shillong, located in the hill state of Meghalaya, have rocked their way into record-breaking history. Last year, 7,951 drummers gathered in the town and performed in perfect rhythm for five minutes.
