Title: "Yalai Dorgal" - Ebou Kuts (Ebrima Ceesay) in Fajara March 28, 2009 View count: 277 Rating: 5.0 (1 ratings) Description: I love Youssou Ndour and Baaba Maal's ballads. But most of their recordings are more up tempo than I prefer. A local Gambian singer, Ebrima Ceesay (Ebou Ceesay) has become popular at places frequented by tourists around Fajara and the Senegambia District in The Gambia. He is very talented and does the full range of American covers quite well. During a break at Francisco's, I asked him if he had any songs of his own. He proudly sang two, this one in Mandinka and Wolof. I made an impromptu video; the shaky quality is from having to stand in a hedge to get the shot. To me, these are right up there with the best I have heard anywhere in west Africa. Ebou tells me that Yalai Dorgal can be approximately translated as "God Decides."
