Title: Transformer burns out at Madison High School View count: 54 Rating: 0 (0 ratings) Description: REXBURG - Madison High is closed because a 30-year-old transformer blew its circuit early yesterday morning completely shutting off power to the school. Crews are working on the problem right now. "As you can see with the building and all the lights out, it's pretty dark. And impossible to carry on an educational experience here," said Madison High School Principal Rodger Hampton. Students, who normally would be in school, had a play day. A group of foreign exchange students and their friends spent the afternoon at the Rex center bowling and watching a movie. "I'm not from here. This way I can know more about how America work," said Pompeyo Viciana, an exchange student from Spain. I guess that means some students still had an educational experience. "Yesterday me and a whole bunch of friends went off-roading, and saw some waterfalls. And today I'm hanging out with some other friends and we're going to go bowling," said Brad Clements, a sophomore at Madison High School. Okay for most it was just recreation. "School is just kind of boring, sitting in class kind of listening to the teachers rag on and on kind of gets old," said Kristine Fullmer, a junior at Madison High School. And while they forgot their school woes, Rocky Mountain Power was working on a fix. "When they came in and realized that the transformed had been fried, that they had to shut down the whole school because they didn't want to work with a hot transformer trying to replace anything. So we released school," said Principal Rodger Hampton. This (See Video) is the old transformer they're replacing. It's ancient as you can see. These wires that are currently pulled out of the ground are going to back in, they're going to put cement over the top of that. And they're finally going to install this greener, newer version, of a transformer. And if all goes well, it'll be fixed late tonight. To all of you Madison High School students, you're getting a lucky break. The district declared it an emergency closure. So the day and a half students missed, won't have to be made up.
