Title: Stop-Motion for EMS1 View count: 23 Rating: 5.0 (1 ratings) Description: "The Carving." Whilst making "The Carving," I came across many difficulties. Initially, while conceptualizing the project, I wanted to have a USB cord being pulled from my mouth, crawling around the room, up my guitar and into my computer, and having it say "Hello, Cory." ...it didn't work out too well.. I then tried an idea of junk food battling health food. But the finale wasn't successful. I also tried to detune all the strings on a guitar, then wrinkle them, and coil them. From, here I imported the JPEG sequence in reverse and it made it look the guitar strung itself. It worked in theory, but in practice, the intricate details just weren't where I would have liked them to be to effectively communicate the piece. About five seconds before calling it quits, I saw a lone pumpkin at the end of the hallway, leftover from Halloween. I then thought to myself, what better idea than having it carve itself? So I did it! The difficulties in the piece were holding the pumpkin still after stabbing it and dragging the knife. Also, the camera became a bit jittery on the tripod. I definitely gained innumerable amounts of respect for the creators of Coraline and The Nightmare Before Christmas. The meticulous detail is awe-inspiring in their work. Millions of frames! AHH! Special thanks to Shephaly Soni for her D80 and to Seth Vargo for the expert pumpkin carving and patience. Tags: stop, motion, Author: coryjuba |
