Title: SR500 with Aero's CDI View count: 593 Rating: 5.0 (2 ratings) Description: G'day everybody! First up, sorry about the poor video quality. I've bought a flash new Hi-def camera, but had it on the macro setting so everything but the closeup shot of the speedo and tacho is fuzzy and out of focus. Pretend you've had a few beers or something. Anyway, Matt's got a 1978 SR. While no show-winning queen it's a nice example of a relatively stock SR. It's had some wild problems with idling, with the revs jumping between 800 and 2000 RPM, occasionally cutting out. He's previously thought it was a carb problem, but now we're thinking electronics might have something to do with it... We replaced the standard CDI with an aftermarket unit bought from "Aero" on the SR500 forum. He's a mad Englishman who has built these things in his shed, with the aid of all sorts of gucci testing gear. I had no idea of what it does exactly, and only bought it because I like shiny things. Shipped to Australia, the whole package was under $200.00 - cheaper than the stock part and other aftermarket alternatives. We plugged it in right before this video and this is Matt starting it for the first time. Seems to have flattened out the idling, but we didn't really have it hot enough to -really- test it but it certainly looks a lot better. I haven't ridden the bike before this, but Matt reckons the power delivery is a lot smoother. Anyway, if this sounds like an add, it ain't. I've never met the man in person and didn't get this thing for free or anything. So far it seems to be working really well. Next time I've got some spare time I'll film the old CDI in action and then the new one to show what an improvement it is.
