Title: PS1 Underrated gem: Gekido View count: 2184 Rating: 5.0 (15 ratings) Description: This is a series of gameplay vids I'm doing highlighting overlooked games for the various consoles I own. This is played on the PS2 with texture smoothing and fast loading on. I've had this footage on my hard drive for months, so I finally decided to upload it. The PS1's weakest genre was the beat 'em up genre. In fact, the system of the PS1's generation that had the best beat 'em ups by far was the Saturn. The only two big ones of note on the PS1 were Fighting Force (which is fun, but pretty standard), and Gekido. Gekido is my favorite of the two. The game comes off as relatively generic, but it does try to make the beat 'em up genre more interesting. The paths of play change every time you play the game, there are new characters to unlock, and you earn new moves and combination over time. It even has a four player fighting mode (for those of you with a multi-tap) where you and three of your buds can go at it with characters you unlock in the game. Overall, it's not the greatest beat 'em up ever devised, but it's definitely the best one the PS1 has to offer IMO. If you're a fan of beat 'em ups, and still have an interest in the PS1, then check Gekido out. The load times can be relatively long and frequent as well. In the vid I've even got the PS2's fast loading on, and they still take some time to wait through. Also, if you're not a fan of the genre, this game won't change your mind at all. Gekido is only available on the PS1.
