This film tells us the story of Hassan's life as a child with great passion in music and follows him through to fatherhood. Hassan and Ani eloped and ran away to Singapore knowing that their marriage will never be approved by Ani's parents. Hassan soon became a famous musician. Hassan worked hard to provide a good home for his wife and they had a happy marriage. Hassan was overjoyed when he found out that his wife was pregnant but it soon turned to sorrow as Ani died giving birth to a son, Sazali. Hassan turns all his love and affection towards Sazali which corrupts rather than educates. P. Ramlee plays dual roles in this film as an adult Hassan and Sazali.
