Title: O Valiant Hearts View count: 345 Rating: 4.6 (5 ratings) Description: Tune: The Supreme Sacrifice by Rev. C. Harris. Words by John Stanhope Arkwright written in 1919, at the end of the First World War. The date of the signing of the armistice, November 11th, has been set aside to honour the military. It is called Remembrance Day in UK and Canada, Veterans Day in the United States. ANZAC day on 25th April is commemorated in Australia and New Zealand to remember those who fought at Gallipoli during World War I. Arkwright was a barrister, the Chief Steward of the city of Hereford in England and was MP for Hereford from 1900-19. This hymn appeared in a book of poems he entitled The Supreme Sacrifice and Other Poems in Time of War. The tune is by Dr. Charles Harris who was vicar of Colwall, coincidentally also in Herefordshire on the western slopes of the Malvern Hills. I should specially like to dedicate this to the memory of the British soldiers who were murdered by a trainee Afghan policeman and the members of the U.S. Forces who lost their lives in the recent massacre at Fort Hood.
