Title: Non-Fat-Phobic Anorexia Nervosa View count: 239 Rating: 0 (0 ratings) Description: In a recent edition of International Journal of Eating Disorders, clinicians and researchers have been debating the diagnostic criteria for eating disorders in preparation for the production of DSM V. A recent review paper in this journal debates 'non-fat-phobic' anorexia nervosa and its place in DSM V. Some professionals argue that a desire to be thin and 'body image' issues are the essential entity of anorexia nervosa and therefore define the condition. However, there is published research which describes cases of anorexia nervosa in which the behaviours of affected individuals (food restriction, over-exercise, purging etc.) are NOT performed in order to become or remain very thin; i.e. the person's behaviours have a different personal meaning. In this video I argue why I feel that it is inaccurate to assume anorexia nervosa is always or only a 'body image' disorder associated with fear of fatness.
