Title: Jake Wildwood - Fid-o-lin Blues View count: 561 Rating: 5.0 (19 ratings) Description: Just some improvisation on this little beastie... this was a flea market find. In its old life it was a 3/4 fiddle from around c.1900 or so that had a broken top and back (8 pieces), no hardware or pegs, and a sad little life in a junk heap. At any rate, I've made a new cherry fretboard for it, modified a mandolin adjustable bridge, installed banjo-style tuners, and installed a bone violin "saddle" at the end pin and a bone nut. The tone bar has been reglued as well and a new soundpost has been installed. The result? Super projection, loads of sustain, and a sweet, direct tone with the punch of a buegrass mandolin... but only 4 strings. I'm totally sold. Chords sound great on this thing. I've got to pop the 6th fret in just a hair more and it'll be all set to go, but I was too giddy not to post this now!
