Title: I Was Only 19 (Modern Version) View count: 226 Rating: 3.6666667 (3 ratings) Description: First let me say that by rewriting this song I do not take full credit for it. The original song is an amazing song about the Vietnam war by an Australian group called Redgum. I am a fan of the song and, since I was in the United States Army and made a lot of new good friends, I thought I would rewrite the song to suit what is going on in the modern world. This is for them. I do not mean to offend anyone over the rewrite--if I get too many complaints from people I will be more than happy to take the video down. But for now, hopefully you will enjoy my version-- US citizen or foreign. This is my tribute to all those serving their country. And night time's just an eerie dark and the sound of distant cracks? And what's this rash that comes and goes, can you tell me what it means? God help me - I was only nineteen A four week operation, when each march can mean your last one on two legs It was a war within yourself But you wouldn't let your men down 'til they had you dusted off So you closed your eyes and thought about somethin' else And then someone yelled out "Contact", and the man behind me swore We hung in there for hours, then a God almighty roar And Frankie kicked a can the day that came all too soon God help me - he was going home in June And I can still see Frankie, On the day we left for Benning drinking his last coke on the bus And I can still hear Frankie, lying screaming in the sand 'Til the morphine came and killed the bloody roar And the news man never mentioned all the screams and blood and tears And the stories that they told me never really seemed quite real. I caught some pieces in my leg that I didn't even feel God help me, I was only nineteen. And can you tell me, doctor, why I still can't get to sleep? And night time's just an eerie dark and the sound of distant cracks? And what's this rash that comes and goes, can you tell me what it means? God help me - I was only nineteen God help me - I was only nineteen Tags: us army, i was only 19, war, iraq, afghanistan, redgum, cover, united states, america, 101st airborne, infantry, Author: alastarthurber |
