The film portrays the circumstances surrounding the rise of the Sikh insurgency in Punjab in the 1980s, and traces the transformation of a youth from a next-door guy to a dreaded terrorist bent of wreaking vengeance for the wrong meted out to him. Vishal Bhardwaj Bhardwaj is the son of Ram Bhardwaj, a popular poet and lyricist. He was born and raised in the Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh. As a young man, Vishal moved to Delhi. He pursued his graduation in the famous Hindu College of Delhi University where he nurtured his talents and also met love of his life.He started playing harmonium for little known ghazal singers at the various food festivals in Delhis Pragati Maidan.
