It extends from the Yushima section of Bunkyo-ku to the Kanda section of Chiyoda-ku. Meiji University, Tokyo Medical and Dental University, and Juntendo University all have main campuses in the area. Ochanomizu Station on the Chūō Line is the transport hub of the district. Prior to the Great Kantō earthquake, Ochanomizu University was also there; after the earthquake, it moved to its present location in the Ōtsuka neighborhood of Bunkyo-ku. Ochanomizu is also the location of the Holy Resurrection Cathedral (Nicholai-dō). Ochanomizu is famous for its many musical instrument stores, as well as ski and snowboard shops located a short walk from the station; it is known as the "go-to" district for bargain-conscious musicians and sportsmen. Ocha-no-mizu literally means "tea water", after the nearby Kanda River from which water was extracted to make the shogun's tea during the Edo period. Ochanomizu Station (both JR and Marunouchi lines) is convenient to access Yushima Seidō, Yushima Tenjin, and Kanda Myōjin. 御茶の水（おちゃのみず）は、東京都文京区湯島から千代田区神田に至る、千代田区神田駿河台を中心とした一帯の地名（通称）。 台地上にあり、中央部を東西に走る堀割に神田川（両区の境界にあたる）が流れ、また東日本旅客鉄道（JR東日本）御茶ノ水駅がある。 現在では主に地域名には「お茶の水」「御茶の水」表記が使用され（道路標識等）、主に駅名関連には「御茶ノ水」表記が使い分けられている（「丸の内」「丸ノ内」も同様）。 江戸時代は、付近一帯が大名屋敷地であった。現在では、地区内と周辺に明治大学、東京医科歯科大学、順天堂大学などの大学や専門学校、予備校が集る日本国内最大の学生街として知られ、また、江戸の総鎮守・神田明神、湯島聖堂、ニコライ堂等を始めとする宗教施設、有名病院等が多数存在。更に、国内最大の書店街・楽器店街・スポーツ店街、多くの食通を惹き付ける老舗名店街等も内包、隣接するなど、名所を多く抱える広範な文化ゾーンを形成している。 古くは北側の本郷台（湯島台）と南側の駿河台が一続きで「神田山」と呼ばれていたが、2代将軍徳川秀忠の時代に、水害防止用の神田川放水路と江戸城の外堀を兼ねて東西方向に堀割が作られ、現在のような渓谷風の地形が形成された。同じ頃、その北側にあった高林寺から泉が出て、この水を将軍のお茶用の水として献上したことから、この地が御茶ノ水と呼ばれるようになったといわれる。 また、このことから、雅称として「お茶の谷」という意味の「茗溪（めいけい）」という呼び名が存在し、周辺にこの名を冠した通りや商店があるほか、1872年（明治5年）に湯島の昌平黌に設置された日本初の官立師範学校、つまり東京教育大学を経た現在の筑波大学の同窓会「茗渓会」にその名が残されている。 また、この地に縁があることから、前述の師範学校の附属学校（現在の筑波大学附属中学校・高等学校）の校歌にも「茗渓」という呼び名が登場する。（歌詞はこちら） Tags: pussycat, dolls, jai, ho, a.r., rahman, you, are, my, destiny, say, tokyo, ochanamizu, 御茶ノ水橋から御茶ノ水駅, 聖橋を望む, japan, japanese, metro, subway, infrastructure, japon, underground, stations, 聖橋, Author: GCHANNEL2 |
