President Nicolas Sarkozy took the publishing company K&B, the maker of the kit, to the courts after it went on sale on October 9th. His lawyer said Mr Sarkozy had "exclusive and absolute rights" over his own image. However, the court said the voodoo doll was "within the authorized limits of free expression and the right to humor" and rejected Sarkozys argument. The doll comes with a 56 page manual and 12 pins which users can stick into the doll printed with Sarkozys famous quotes, such as work more to earn more and Get lost you pathetic aresehole. K&B has issued 20,000 copies of the manual and doll. The case has attracted a fair amount of mockery in France and boosted sales of the kit.
