Title: FF9PGWSF 55 - Card Tournament View count: 2457 Rating: 4.625 (8 ratings) Description: Items Obtained: 3 Mandragora Cards, Dragonfly Card, Sahagin Card, Namingway Card, 15,000 gil Moogle Letter: Read a letter from Kupo to Mogrich "New Champion" Before starting the Card Tournament, I synth Cotton Robes. And this time I have enough money to make all of them at once. Thanks to getting some decently strong cards from Hippaul, I can use the Nova Dragon, Ramuh, Tantarian, Armstrong and Shiva cards and have a good chance of winning. I do something that is completely unnecessary for a perfect game, but I do it anyway. There are only two ways to get a Namingway Card. One is found in the Desert Palace, and the other can be won here. Not sending Vivi to Quan's Dwelling triggers the ATE "Hippo's Prize" after round 1. Watching it makes Mario of the Slums your opponent for round 2, who often uses Namingway Cards. The ATE is only like 20 seconds long, and for that bit of time a Namingway Card can be won. The Namingway Card I won is freakin' sweet too, too bad I'll only be playing one more game of Tetra Master before getting the Excalibur II. Before finishing the tournament, I need to beat the second arena monster, Catoblepas. I set Zidane up like so: Zidane: Gladius, Bandana, Chimera Armlet, Bronze Vest, Germanis Boots Antibody, Jelly I will first fight Catoblepas and get knocked out. After the battle, Zidane will revive with 1 HP (which is why I deactivated Distract). I'll then activated Distract, and during the next battle, since I have 9 Ores, Zidane can use an Ore and gain 36 HP, and then use Lucky Seven. Catoblepas can attack, use Thundara or use Devil's Bell, which inflicts Petrify. Jelly will prevent the latter. It's surprising how ineffective 26 Evade + Distract is against Catoblepas, and I had some bad luck with it using Thundara during the second battle. But I eventually got a good run, and 15,000 gil for my victory. I then purchase a Coral Sword for the Charge! ability. Zidane didn't need Antibody for this fight, but this is a good set up for the next battle he's in. He needs to stay at 37 HP to keep using Lucky Seven, and Poison will mess that up, so I go ahead and activate Antibody now. And since I have decided to have Freya absorb the Exp from Tantarian, I can skip auctioning the Dark Matter. Mogrich can be a little annoying to catch, luckily I'll only have to save with him one more time.
