Title: DOLLY DIE View count: 2137 Rating: 4.894737 (19 ratings) Description: This IS A VIDEO INSTALLATION I DONE To compliment my photography comic that is being exhibited at waterloo art gallery from 1st April- 5th April 2008. This piece was based on the title Replica. I know the movie is PANTS but then again it's my first attempt at stop frame and I am very very new to film in fact most of my films are just made up of shots .....so please leave constructive criticism and hopefully my next one will be bigger and better . This was created in Movie Maker so it explains why it looks unprofessional .......as previously stated i am new and have only just started teaching myself Final Cut pro. For those of you who have not seen Kill Bill it is really famous film produced by Quentin Tarantino the director of Pulp Fiction. It is based around Martial arts and in itself is a parody of martial art movies. The story is about revenge of an ex Assassin as she, her family and guest were all killed on her wedding day by her Boss and the remaining squad of assassins. Even though she was shot in the head she survives and awakes from her coma six years later ......with her mind oooozing for revenge, revenge and nothing but revenge. Dolly Die is a parody of kill Bill which reflects Japanese culture and the obsession of manga, anime and sci fi, i show this by turning the crazy 88 into the otaku 88...otaku meaning a hardcore fan of manga. I have used by four year old niece Soraya to play Oren-ishi who is the underworld Don of Japan, and my other niece Zainab and nephew Juwad to play Go Go and the head general of Oren's army otaku 88. I have also shown an exaggerated version of the Japanese's view on foreigners by using a vulnerable gaijin as a passing character who is attacked by the otaku 88. Gaijin meaning foreigner but can also be used for Japanese heritage who differentiates from the norm or who has views opposite ends of a spectrum to the average Japanese. They have secret societies of 127million members who ostracize against these odd people. My inspiration has come from evidently Quinten Tarantino as Kill Bill init self was a a parody of martial art movies and he has made several cinematic references to The game of Death starring Bruce lee. The choice in outfit worn by Black Mamba being the evident one. I was also keen on his use of blood as it is very exaggerated, hence i have used blood as red polka dots this idea was inspired not only by Quinten Tarantino but by a very famous Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama she has had a long struggle with mental illness early in her career she started covering surfaces with dots that have now become a trade mark of her career and they are taken from her hallucinations. She was cast out of Japan as a gaijin due to her style of work, she left for New York where she met and worked with Andy warhol later to return to Japan as a famous artist. Today she lives by choice in a mental hospital where she carries on producing her outstanding work. Finally the comic Book I produced for this piece is on sale and you get a quick glimpse of this at the end of the movie....I will only ever be making a 100 special edition copies of this all labelled what number in the edition it is they are selling at £40 a comic this price includes a DVD with the short movie and deleted scenes, I have sold several copies so far so please contact me if you are interested.
