Title: Depth Perception View count: 90 Rating: 5.0 (4 ratings) Description: Sorry about the crappy edit half way through. I'm thinking about depth perception and how it is the only perceptual sense which is manifestly the result of cognitive processes. Obviously the other senses are similarly cognitive but they don't always feel like that. My seeing the world seems completely transparent, as if there is just a hole in the front of my face that the light of the world pours in through. The perception of depth is not like that though, and I can demonstrate its constructedness to myself just by closing one eye. If I do that all of the object in my visual field are undisturbed but the depth dimension that lays those objects out at various distances in front of me just vanishes. I find the wierdness of depth perception quite useful as analogies for other kinds of seeing and thinking and knowing (maybe).
