The first star identified to be at this stage was T-Tauri, hence the name. During the T-Tauri stage, stars are extremely active and variable, but do not undergo nuclear reactions in their cores until they enter the main sequence. They are driven by gravitational collapse (the K-H contraction mechanism). The winds generated by T-Tauri stars are theorised to be strong enough to stimulate production of warm water vapour in the nebulae around them.
