Written by The Peninsula Times Sunday, 01 June 2008 Mallawi, Egypt • Angry Egyptian Christians demonstrated in the southern town of Mallawi yesterday against what they said was government inaction in the face of repeated attacks by Muslims against their community. At least 300 Coptic Christians gathered outside the main church in Mallawi a day after gunmen stormed a historic monastery and kidnapped three monks sparking clashes that left one person dead and four wounded. "We have been quiet for too long. We regularly have problems and always forgive but we've had enough," one of the demonstrators, Hanna Ibrahim, said. "If there is no action by the state, or the people responsible (for the monastery attack) are not brought to justice, we will not remain quiet much longer," he shouted. Surrounded by hundreds of black-clad security forces, protestors chanted: "With our blood and soul, we will defend the cross," and appealed to President Hosni Mubarak to intervene because "Coptic hearts are on fire." The clashes between Muslims and Christians broke out on Saturday when the monks at the ancient Abu Fana monastery began building a wall around neighbouring property after receiving final approval earlier this year. Muslim residents of the area claim the agricultural land on which the wall is being built as theirs, and say it is damaging their crops. ملوي (مصر) - تظاهر مصريون مسيحيون غاضبون في مدينة ملوي بمحافظة المنيا في صعيد مصر الاحد احتجاجا على ما يعتبرونه تغاضي الحكومة عن حمايتهم بعد هجمات عدة استهدفت الاقباط خلال الايام الاخيرة. وتجمع اكثر من 300 مسيحي قبطي امام مطرانية الاقباط الارثوذكس في ملوي (300 كيلومتر جنوب القاهرة) غداة صدامات بين مسلمين ومسيحيين عند دير اثري في محافظة المنيا ادت الى اصابة اربعة اقباط، من بينهم اثنان بطقات نارية، ومقتل مسلم بالرصاص. ووقعت الصدامات بسبب نزاع مستمر منذ عدة سنوات وتجدد اخيرا في مطلع العام بين رهبان دير ابو فانا (270 كم جنوب القاهرة) والمسلمين من سكان قرية مجاورة يريدون منع الدير من بناء سور يحيط بالاراضي التابعة له والتي يعتبر المسلمون انها مملوكة لهم بوضع اليد رغم انها من املاك الدولة. وكان رهبان دير ابو فانا حصلوا قبل شهرين على موافقة نهائية من السلطات الرسمية ببناء السور وشرعوا قبل عدة ايام في اعمال الحفر تمهيدا لتشييده ما ادى الى تحرك سكان القرية المجاورة لوقف الاعمال. وروى احد رهبان الدير وهو الاب دوماديوس ما حدث مؤكدا ان "حوالى 60 من سكان القرية المجاورة المسلمين هاجموا الدير عند الساعة السادسة مساء السبت وكانوا مسلحين بما لا يقل عن 20 بندقية الية اضافة الى العصي". واضاف الاب دوماديوس "فوجئنا باطلاق نيران كثيف في الهواء ثم استولى المهاجمون على الجرافة التي كان العمال يستخدمونها في الحفر وانقسموا الى عدة مجموعات وقاموا بهدم غرفتين يستخدمها الرهبان للخلوة بواسطة الجرافة واحرقوا ثلاث غرف اخرى كما احرقوا وهشموا محتويات الدور الاول من مبنى كنيسة صغيرة تقع داخل حرم الدير". واوضح انه اثناء هذه الاحداث "اصيب اثنان من طالبي الرهبنة الموجودين في الدير بالرصاص واثنان من الرهبان من جراء ضرب عنيف بالعصي". واكد ان المهاجمين اختطفوا ثلاثة من الرهبان اثناء انسحابهم Tags: egypt, usa, Author: copts01 |
