Title: China Kidney Checks Criticized View count: 1039 Rating: 4.714286 (28 ratings) Description: WONG: And in our continuing coverage of China's tainted milk crisis... families from across China have contacted NTD complaining about the effectiveness of kidney checkups for their kids. They are calling the hospital visits mere formalities. The toxic chemical melamine which has been found in milk, is known to cause kidney stones. STORY: A farmer in a village of Hebei Province says doctors aren't doing enough to treat children who may have ingested the toxic chemical melamine. All he says doctors are doing is asking whether the child has ever drank tainted Sanlu milk, nothing more. [Hebei Farmer]: If I say that my child has not drank Sanlu milk, we use another brand, the doctor says, 'It's fine, only Sanlu is toxic.' Residents in villages across Guangdong Province also report a similar situation. [Guangdong Farmer]: Our child drinks Yashili milk. That milk has less melamine. Doctors would say, 'everything is all right.' Residents in Hebei Province tell NTD that there are few TV reports about the milk scare. Many parents think that only Sanlu milk is dangerous, so they are now feeding their kids other brands... but those other brands may be tainted as well. [Hebei Farmer]: "I find the Internet news says many brands have melamine. You watch the regular TV news, it does not report this. The majority of farmers only know they should not drink Sanlus toxic milk. They do not know what else may be contaminated. NTD China News Tags: ntd, ntdtv, news, Author: NTDTV |
