Title: Bruce Lee - the Godfather of MMA View count: 7087 Rating: 4.85 (94 ratings) Description: Bruce Lee - the Godfather of MMA Frank Shamrock said Bruce is the "FATHER" of MMA. Randy Couture said Bruce is the "FATHER" of MMA. So, if you disagree with me, you disagree with Frank Shamrock, Randy Couture and Dana White who have also crowned Bruce Lee as the inspiration and original martial artist in mainstream America, who trained like an MMA fighter and taught the teachings of the MMA world way before UFC was even thought of. I used Sony Vegas 8 and WMM to edit the video. Master Bruce Lee's basis of his style is the way of the intercepting fist but it evolved into Jeet Kune Do which Bruce himself said stood for combining the things that work from each martial art into one. Bruce was the originator of building the perfect MMA fighter. Bruce also has a book, (he has a bunch), where he said -most- fights end up on the ground, and ground practice was crucial to being a well rounded warrior(paraphrased). Most martial arts didnt start changing until UFC got big, some are still teaching techniques that dont work. The Tao of Jeet Kune Do was a fantastic book and basis to Jeet Kune Do and it's philosophy's. Every single fighter on this earth should be forced to study this book. I do warn you, the moves in this book should not be looked as a blue print to Jeet Kune Do, no, the moves and techniques depicted in the Tao of Jeet Kune Do are merely a basis for the embodyment of the concept that is Jeet Kune Do. The Tao of Jeet Kune Do is not the blueprint to the essence of Jeet Kune Do, although it is the teaching of the essence that is Jeet Kune Do. NEVER LOOK AT BRUCE LEE MOVIES TO SCOUT HIS ABILITIES AS A MARTIAL ARTIST, ALWAYS LOOK TO HIS TEACHINGS. BRUCE LEE MOVIES WERE MADE IN AN EFFORT TO CATER TO THOSE WHO CRAVE THE BIG MARTIAL ARTS "NINJA" KICK, BRUCE LEE'S ACTUAL FIGHTING STYLE AND ABILITIES WERE MUCH MORE PRACITCAL AND GROUNDBREAKING. BRUCE TRIED TO INCORPORATE HIS STYLE INTO HIS MOVIES IN VARIOUS WAYS, THIS WAS NOT AN EXACT REFLECTION OF HIS STYLE UNDER FIGHTING CONDITIONS. THE MOVIE GAME OF DEATH WAS MEANT TO BE ANOTHER LESSON TO ALL OF THE FIGHTERS AROUND THE WORLD FROM THE GREATEST TEACHER OF JEET KUNE DO, WHO TAUGHT US THE MMA STYLE WAY BEFORE UFC HAD EVEN BEEN THOUGHT OF. Another little known fact about Bruce Lee is that he was a huge boxing fan. He loved to study and emulate Muhammad Ali, Jersey Joe Walcott and many many other great boxers during his training. In Bruce Lee's book the Tao of Jeet Kune Do, which I've studied, he instructs to strike and grab the groin in a situation where someone traps you. So if a BJJ fighter was to trap Bruce Lee he would be the unfortunate victim of a vicious groin beating. I don't think many grapplers would be able to "trap" someone "EASILY" as the BJJ homers predict, when Bruce Lee was so willing to fight dirty on the ground. Not to mention Bruce Lee's own ability to submit. So if you haven't studied the Tao of Jeet Kune Do, don't leave the "Bruce Lee would get destroyed grappling" comment, please. Bruce Lee had some grappling experience and nobody should write that off. Still, he was not unbeatable, no man is. So to be blunt, and straight to the point, if a BJJ fighter tried to lay in the guard position against Bruce Lee during a fight, Bruce Lee would pound their groin. He would disable their ability to defend with the mount by striking the groin. I studied the Tao of Jeet Kune Do and still study it, many many times in the book and in the illustrations Bruce Lee instructs to use groin striking in situations like that. That's not to mention all of his ground work and submission ability. I am just pointing out that Bruce's ability to fight dirty would render a "full guard" position useless for a BJJ fighter. An MMA fighter who combines Muay Thai, BJJ, Wrestling, Kenpo, Boxing or whatever, he's using the Jeet Kune Do philosophy. Jeet Kune Do was not a style with a set group of techniques. All MMA fighters have used the Jeet Kune Do philosophy of being a well rounded fighter. That includes ground fighting. Most people confuse Jeet Kune Do for being another Martial Arts style like a Taekwondo or Shotokan karate. These individuals are misinformed. Jeet Kune Do is the essence of MMA. Example of groin striking: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19Dz8arDKs4 Also, when Bruce Lee became well known for his fighting ability he began to get challenged by other martial artists for fights. Bruce Lee accepted all of these challenges and went undefeated. The challenges that Bruce Lee faced from other Martial Artists is the essence of MMA. It was other Martial Artists who wanted to test their style on the great Bruce Lee. IN every case they came up short. Many accounts of fights on the sets of movies between Bruce Lee and other Martial Artists in his movies, have been well documented. Bruce Lee accepted all challenges. Bruce Lee is the inspiration behind the spirit of the MMA world.
