He was behind Joe and Demi, who were holding hands, smiling at each other and everybody else. They were such the popular couple! Nick walked behind them. Smiling at girls, and high-fiving guys. He was the still-available-popular guy. And then me. The girl no one really cared about. All they knew me as was the-girl-with-the-big-family or the-single-brunette-chick. The only person at the school that cared about me was Demi. Later guys and Selena I heard Nick say. I waved shyly, and went to my locker. I found three pink carnations. No red ones. Wow, theres a shock. One was from Demi, another one from Joe, and the last one from Nick. Demi probably made him give me one. Look, theres another shock! I looked to my right, and saw Demi holding a red carnation and hugging Joe. They were perfect for each other. They knew everything there was to know about the other. Unlike Nick and I. But like Demi said, its not fair for me to compare Nick and I to Joe and Demi. They knew they were meant to be. Nick and I were also meant to be, he just didnt know it yet. I opened my locker, put the carnations inside, and grabbed my stuff. I closed it and looked across the hall. Nick was standing talking to his friends. I sighed and walked to my first class. -- After school, I sat on the steps that lead to the front door. Hey Demi said, sitting next to me. Are you ok? She asked me, her beautiful wavy hair over her shoulders, shining in the spring-like sun. Yeah I got three pink carnations, from you, Joe and Nick I said. I felt my heart break into a million pieces. Oh but no red ones? Demi asked. She knew I would shake my head, but she wanted to be sure. She knew about my crush on Nick, and supported it. She was also there for me whenever I needed help to get back on my feet after Id been knocked down.
