Scott wanted to say a few words: Heres the beautiful Cannon County sunset in Woodbury, after the rainy day weve had today. The Cannon County School Boards workshop was held tonight before the meeting thats to be held Thursday night, 7 p.m. at West Side School. This is the unofficial meeting before the meeting, as always, open to the public and the media. Theres no action taken, just discussion on whats going to be brought up. There are several items on the agenda. One was enforcement for the $800 per student tuition for out of county students. The board received a memorandum from the state, who stated they have been in conversation with the US Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights, in regards to degrees of corporal punishment. Director Parkers recommendation is to remove it completely as per the states recommendation. Terry Gannon addressed the board regarding a discrepancy in his pay received. Director Parker stated that in order to research his pay, they would need to defer until the December meeting. Then Gannon brought to the boards attention a letter that basically states that principals are to be on call 24 hours a day, a directive from the time Dr. Diden had served, which he stated was illegal, and also, violated current board policy. As far as the letter, board members and the director were concerned and going to look into it immediately. Meeting regarding report card changes and assessment changes with Dr. Long, State Department of Education, 6 p.m. November 19, 2009, at the Department of Education Board Room. Kathy Hyatt, board member, asked Director Parker for a status update on the flu. Basically, it seems to be concentrated at Short Mountain, and per Principal Pitts, a game may have to be cancelled.
