The Cunard ocean liner is expected to dock in Dubai's port, Mina Rashid, at 1730 local (1330gmt), after which passengers, VIP guests and the crew will watch a fireworks display. The QE2 which left the English south coast port of Southampton on November 11 for a 16 night cruise to Dubai, will be turned into a luxury hotel on the man-made island, Palm Jumeriah by developers Nakheel. The CEO of QE2 Enterprises for Nakheel Hotels, Manfred Ursprunger, said the QE2 will be a main attraction. "Well the QE2 will be a cultural centre, we'll create a precinct where she will be featured as the main attraction, and there will be a maritime museum, there will be an art exhibition centre, there will be residences, there will be theatre, so it will be a very cultural experience for visitors for many years to come," he said. The QE2 was lunched by Queen Elizabeth on September 20, 1967 and has crossed the Atlantic 803 times, travelling over 5.6 million nautical miles. Purchased in 2007 by Dubai World, Nakeel's parent company, the ocean liner will be formally handed over to Nakheel on Thursday (November 27).
