Secret Service save woman who had heart attack

At the start of the tourist season in the nation’s capital, security-camera video captures tense moments as Secret Service personnel race to the aid of a woman near Washington’s most famous address. NBC’s Kristen Welker reports.

>> reporter: at the start of the busy tourist season in the nation's capital, security camera video captures the dramatic moments when secret service officers race to the aid of a woman on pennsylvania avenue near washington's most famous address.

>> i thought maybe she had just fainted but when i first arrived over there, i noticed she was foaming at the mouth, having trouble breathing. at that point, it only got worse.

>> reporter: uniformed secret service officers william grimmer and thomas hammond were on regular patrol when a tourist from dallas suffered a heart attack on her way to check in at a hotel with her husband.

>> reporter: using chest compressions, she started to breathe again, rushed to the hospital.

>> it's rewarding in itself to know that she's okay at this point.

>> reporter: a proud moment for an agency after officers were sent home from the negletherlands.

>> we had to attend to a medical call, a little more serious than we're used to, but it went down pretty flawlessly.
