3,000 types of bacteria found on dollar bills

Don't put your money where your mouth is – an NYU study found bacteria on money that can cause acne, pneumonia, and food poisoning.

>>> matt, this next story, i don't think you're going to want to hear this. you know the expression put your money where your mouth is? scientists have found 3,000 reasons why that is not a good idea. after analyzing the genetic material on dollar bills -- i'm holding it with tweezers for a reason. they have found 3,000 types of bacteria. that's the most that any study has ever detected. the most common species was linked to acne. they were traced to pneumonia, food poisoning , staph infections . researchers say they were surprised to learn that microbes could actually grow on money.
