Obama kicks off European trip

President Obama is in the Netherlands this morning for two days of meetings with other world leaders at the Nuclear Security Summit. But the crisis in Ukraine is casting a shadow over the visit. NBC’s Peter Alexander reports.

>> reporter: tamron, good morning to you. president obama arrived this morning in the first of a four-nation trip. the most noteworthy today, a hastily called meeting of the g-7 leaders. president obama just a short time ago said that the u.s. and europe are united and imposing on russia. how strong that cost will be and how far european leaders are willing to go with one of the largest trading partners. the u.s. also wants to prevent russian troops from moving further into ukraine. president obama told a dutch newspaper that despite russia's takeover of crimea, he doesn't want europe viewed as a battleground between the east and west . saying that's the kind of thinking that should've ended with the cold war . vladimir putin will not be here. his foreign minister is set to meet with john kerry .
