2 killed after car hits SXSW crowd

A suspected drunk driver faces two counts of capital murder after striking a crowd at the South by Southwest festival in Texas, killing at least two people and injuring dozens of others. KXAN’s Sophia Beausoleil reports.

>> reporter: matt, police say a suspected drunk driver tried to escape police but led them on a chase, plowing into a crowd of people and several cars.

>> everywhere you look, someone's been hit.

>> reporter: aterrifying scene overnight after a suspected drunk driver refused to stop for police, running into people at the southwest festival.

>> the card goes down red river and hits multiple people. unfortunate. very sad. mutt many people don't all the way down the street.

>> at least two people on a moped were killed and five more in critical condition.

>> reporter: how long ago did this happen?

>> like ten minutes ago, maybe five.

>> we're still shooken up about it.

>> reporter: they were headed to a concert.

>> we were waiting to get into a show, around the side and a car came driving through, hit look ten people.

>> probably going like 70 miles an hour. i just saw all these people like flying. like it was terrifying.

>> reporter: police say the driver tried to flee on foot but was tased and is in custody and is expected to be charged with two counts of murder. police say this area will be blocked off tore the for the remainder of the day as they continue their investigation.
